Education Cess

Education cess in India refers to an additional tax imposed on individuals and entities to fund the development and improvement of educational facilities and initiatives in the country. It is collected at the flat rate of 4% (health and education cess) over and above the regular income tax or corporate tax liability and is primarily aimed at supporting educational initiatives, including infrastructure development, scholarships, and educational programs. The education cess is levied at a specific rate on the total tax payable by taxpayers and is utilized for the advancement of the education sector in India.
