In order to get their stocks ‘listed’ on stock exchanges in India, companies go through the IPO (Initial Public Offer) process. Listed stocks can start trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which are governed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) guidelines. Listed stocks are stocks of companies which are ‘public’ and there are certain rules with respect to transparency, quarterly result updates etc which they need to comply with.
