Special Trading Session

Updated on March 13, 2023

Special Trading Session is a particular market trading session which is conducted on a special occasion and enables trading for a limited time window. This is outside of the normal trading window and is arranged for a specific purpose. In India, ‘Muhurat trading’ on the occasion of Diwali every year is an example of a ‘Special Trading Session’. Stock markets, like other financial markets, are closed for normal trading on Diwali. However, the special trading window is generally open for one hour between 6:15-7:15 PM.
Diwali is important for investors/traders and they participate in Muhurat trading during this auspicious time window in the evening to place bets for luck and a profitable year.
