Benchmark indices closed near the day’s low on August 26, with large caps pulling Nifty below 24,700 amid concerns over Trump’s draft order to impose an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports from August 27.
The BSE Midcap index slipped 1.3% and Smallcap index 1.7%.
Except FMCG, all sectoral indices ended lower, with PSU Bank, Metal, Pharma, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durables, Realty and Telecom down 1–2%.
