The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has taken the initiative to set up state-of-the-art, well-designed model training centres in every district of India under the “Skilled India Mission”. These model training centres are called “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra” (PMKK).
PMKKs have created an aspirational value for running high-quality industry-based courses and skill development training focusing on employability.
Objectives of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra
- PMKK envisions transforming the short-term training ecosystem from a mandated operational delivery model to a sustainable institutional model.
- The Scheme provides quality and good connections concerning the skill development process.
- The Scheme aims at developing benchmark institutes for competitive and skill-based training.
- Through the Scheme, youth will get more employment opportunities according to their abilities.

Major features of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra
Investment support is provided for setting up PMKK. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) provides financial assistance in secured loans up to a maximum of Rs 70 lakh per PMKK.
Financial assistance is provided for CAPEX assistance (capital assistance) (not to be used/for creation of immovable assets) which includes the following components:
- Training infrastructure including procurement of machinery and equipment
- Training Aid and Other Related Items
- centre interior
- Industry association and trainers
-Size of the Centre: Built-up area 3000 sq ft – 8000 sq ft (depending on the population of the district)
-Standardised external and internal branding and infrastructural requirements across all centres.
-District Population-Based Curriculum for the aspirations of local youth
-Smart Classrooms, Audio-Visual Training Equipment, Biometric Attendance, interactive sessions, webinars
-Dedicated Consultancy, Mobilisation and Placement Cell
-Residential Assistance as per PMKVY Guidelines
-Compulsory training in manufacturing trades, as per PMKVY guidelines
-Hostel facilities for candidates
-Center inspection to see if it follows the required infrastructure before it becomes operational.
How to open Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra?
The Central Government has started the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana campaign on a large scale in the entire country to provide employment and training to the youth. Skill development plays a huge role in helping youth stand on their feet. The purpose behind this Scheme is to provide youth with meaningful industry, relevant skills, empowerment training. Most of the country’s educational institutions want to join the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. One can connect with employment by training the regional youth to apply on the official website.
The skill development scheme is being successfully run by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship (MSDE) all over the country. Certificates certified by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) are provided to the candidates taking training under the Scheme. Kaushal Vikas Yojana has been run to develop the skills of the youth so that the youth can develop their quality to stand on their own feet.
Six hundred ninety-three training partners at the national level are running the PMAY scheme smoothly. With this, about 3200 small training centres have been opened all over the country by the designated training partners. From 2015 to 2021, about one crore 40 lakh youth have been trained.
Educational institutions of the country want to join the skill development scheme and develop training centres in their area, so they have to apply under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and as a training partner. To apply, follow the below-given application process carefully.
Under the Scheme, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) plans to open PRADHAN MANTRI KAUSHAL KENDRA in every district. Also, skill centres will open up in every district of the country. NSDC has formed a skill development council according to various sectors. This council will appoint the training partner. The founder of the educational institution should approach the official NSDC and apply to the centre as a training partner.
The training partner will have to prepare the classrooms as per the prescribed syllabus.
All the arrangements and facilities related to the courses selected at the training centre should be available.
-For one student, there should be a space of about 10 square feet.
-It is necessary to have lab according to the subject.
-Must complete the course time duration prescribed by NSDC.
-80% presence is mandatory during training.
-The training centre should have the necessary facilities for the disabled.
-There should be a proper arrangement of water toilets at the PMKVY training centre.
-The training partner will have to follow the branding rules prescribed by PMKVY.
-There should not be more than 30 children in a class, i.e. one sale will be of 30 students.
-Each training centre will be monitored.
-All the students must be present during the training.
