Market Snapshot
Indian benchmark indices failed to sustain early gains and traded lower throughout the session on May 6, with the Nifty closing below the 24,400 marks.
Selling pressure was broad-based across sectors, with the exception of auto stocks, which managed to end in the green.
The Nifty PSU Bank index was the worst performer, dropping nearly 5%, followed by the Realty index, which declined 3.5%.
Other sectoral indices, including Pharma, Consumer Durables, Media, Oil & Gas, and Power, fell between 1% and 2.6%.
Weak global cues also weighed on sentiment; the S&P 500 snapped its longest winning streak in 20 years overnight, as investors digested fresh tariff announcements by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Caution prevailed ahead of the upcoming U.S. Federal Reserve monetary policy decision later this week.
