Duplicate PAN Card – Apply Online for Your Lost PAN Card

What is a Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card? 

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a very essential or minimal requirement when it comes to paying taxes in India. It is identity proof of the person and it is also required for many financial transactions in the business world and also in the personal life. Each PAN card has a special series consisting of numbers and alphabets. 

PAN card consists of ten digits alphanumeric number i.e., permanent account number. The PAN of each person is issued by the Income Tax Department of India.  

Each PAN card is valid for a lifetime. When you lose your PAN card, you need not apply for a new one, you can get a duplicate PAN card. You can apply again for the PAN card with the Income tax department. Before getting to know how to apply for a duplicate PAN card, first, read about what is a duplicate PAN card?

What is a Duplicate PAN Card? 

A duplicate PAN card is a document which is issued by the Income Tax Department. 

When you lose or damage your PAN card then you will receive a duplicate PAN card from the ITD (Income Tax Department).  

People generally think that getting the duplicate PAN number back is a tough task but the Income Tax Department has made it easy. Now let’s discuss how you can get your duplicate PAN card from the Income Tax Department. 

When do you need to apply for a duplicate PAN card?

  • Loss of Original Pan Card – Many people usually carry their PAN cards in their wallets. So, possibly people lose their PAN card with the loss of their wallet. It is quite a common reason for the Income Tax Department. 
  • Misplaced – Many people leave their card somewhere and then forget where they had kept it. 
  • Damage to Original PAN Card – Many people damage their PAN cards. The only solution for any type of damage to the PAN card is the reprinting of the PAN card. 
  • Change in the information of the PAN card user – It is also possible that by the time the information of the PAN card and the signature available on the PAN card at the time of applying gets changed. Then in such types of cases, changing and reprinting the PAN card is the only solution.

How to apply for a duplicate PAN Card?

There are two ways by which you can get your PAN card back. You can apply online and you can also apply offline. We will discuss both methods. Let’s first discuss the online method. 

Online way to get a duplicate PAN Card

  1. First, you need to visit TIN-NSDL. Select “Changes or correction in existing PAN data/Reprint of PAN card
  2. Fill and information
  3. A token number will be generated and sent to the email that is provided by you. 
  4. Then fill the details in Personal Details. 
  5. Select the mode of submission of your PAN application form. You can submit the documents physically and digitally.
  6. For physical submission, you need to send the acknowledgement form and copies of the required documents to the PAN service unit of NSDL. 
  7. You can submit digitally through e-KYC and e-sign
  8. You need to select whether you need e-PAN or physical PAN.
  9. Fill in the contact and other details and then submit the application. 
  10. Complete the payment.
  11. You can check the status of a duplicate PAN using a 15 digits acknowledgment number.
  12. The duplicate PAN will be delivered to you within or after two weeks. 

Offline Way to Get a Duplicate PAN Card

  1. First, you need to download and print the Changes or corrections in the PAN data form.
  2. Fill the application form with BLOCK letters only. 
  3. For reference, mention your 10-digit PIN.
  4. 2 passport size photographs are required. 
  5. Fill in all details of the form.
  6. Sign in the relevant boxes. 
  7. Do the payment. 
  8. After payment, you will be provided with a 15 digits acknowledgment number.
  9. Your application will be forwarded to the Income-tax department service unit by the facilitation centre. 
  10.  You can check the status of your PAN card by the acknowledgment number. 
  11. The duplicate PAN will be delivered to you within or after two weeks.
